The Kingdom Is Like Matthew 13:31 Here is another illustration Jesus used: ÒThe Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. Matthew 13:32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.Ó Matthew 13:33 Jesus also used this illustration: ÒThe Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.Ó Matthew 13:44 ÒThe Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. Matthew 13:45 ÒAgain, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. Matthew 13:46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it! Matthew 13:47 ÒAgain, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a fishing net that was thrown into the water and caught fish of every kind. Matthew 13:48 When the net was full, they dragged it up onto the shore, sat down, and sorted the good fish into crates, but threw the bad ones away. Matthew 13:49 That is the way it will be at the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked people from the righteous, Matthew 13:50 throwing the wicked into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 13:52 Then he added, ÒEvery teacher of religious law who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a homeowner who brings from his storeroom new gems of truth as well as old.Ó Matthew 20:1 ÒFor the Kingdom of Heaven is like the landowner who went out early one morning to hire workers for his vineyard. Matthew 20:2 He agreed to pay the normal daily wage and sent them out to work. Matthew 20:3 ÒAt nine oÕclock in the morning he was passing through the marketplace and saw some people standing around doing nothing. Matthew 20:4 So he hired them, telling them he would pay them whatever was right at the end of the day. Matthew 20:5 So they went to work in the vineyard. At noon and again at three oÕclock he did the same thing. Matthew 20:6 ÒAt five oÕclock that afternoon he was in town again and saw some more people standing around. He asked them, ÔWhy havenÕt you been working today?Õ Matthew 20:7 ÒThey replied, ÔBecause no one hired us.Õ ÒThe landowner told them, ÔThen go out and join the others in my vineyard.Õ Matthew 20:8 ÒThat evening he told the foreman to call the workers in and pay them, beginning with the last workers first. Matthew 20:9 When those hired at five oÕclock were paid, each received a full dayÕs wage. Matthew 20:10 When those hired first came to get their pay, they assumed they would receive more. But they, too, were paid a dayÕs wage. Matthew 20:11 When they received their pay, they protested to the owner, Matthew 20:12 ÔThose people worked only one hour, and yet youÕve paid them just as much as you paid us who worked all day in the scorching heat.Õ Matthew 20:13 ÒHe answered one of them, ÔFriend, I havenÕt been unfair! DidnÕt you agree to work all day for the usual wage? Matthew 20:14 Take your money and go. I wanted to pay this last worker the same as you. Matthew 20:15 Is it against the law for me to do what I want with my money? Should you be jealous because I am kind to others?Õ Matthew 20:16 ÒSo those who are last now will be first then, and those who are first will be last.Ó Matthew 22:2 ÒThe Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son. Matthew 22:3 When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come! Matthew 22:4 ÒSo he sent other servants to tell them, ÔThe feast has been prepared. The bulls and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the banquet!Õ Matthew 22:5 But the guests he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business. Matthew 22:6 Others seized his messengers and insulted them and killed them. Matthew 22:7 ÒThe king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town. Matthew 22:8 And he said to his servants, ÔThe wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited arenÕt worthy of the honor. Matthew 22:9 Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.Õ Matthew 22:10 So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike, and the banquet hall was filled with guests. Matthew 22:11 ÒBut when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasnÕt wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. Matthew 22:12 ÔFriend,Õ he asked, Ôhow is it that you are here without wedding clothes?Õ But the man had no reply. Matthew 22:13 Then the king said to his aides, ÔBind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Õ Matthew 22:14 ÒFor many are called, but few are chosen.Ó Mark 4:26 Jesus also said, ÒThe Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. Mark 4:27 Night and day, while heÕs asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. Mark 4:28 The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. Mark 4:29 And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.Ó Mark 10:13 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. Mark 10:14 When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, ÒLet the children come to me. DonÕt stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. Mark 10:15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesnÕt receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.Ó
